Character Analysis: TOC-MAN

Character Analysis: Toc-Man

Background

  • Name: Orson | Toc-Man
  • Age: Likely similar to Pac-Man
  • Weight: 15 Tons
  • First Appearance: Pac-Man World (1999)
  • Likes: Having Friends, Pudding, Parties, Toc-Man
  • Dislikes: Pac-Man (Initially), Being lonely, Not being invited to Birthday Parties

All anyone wants is a friend, and for Orson, he’s no different. As it turns out, he actually grew up and was Childhood Friends with Pac-Man, however as the years went by, Pac-Man would grow in fame, making him jealous. He would try and copy everything Pac-Man does for a slice of that fame, whether it be his own games, cartoons, or even breakfast cereals!.. But unfortunately for him, the entertainment business was simply not for him. He would switch to manufacturing those Pac-Dots that we all know and love and make a fortune off of it. With his new riches, he would move to Ghost Island and build his castle lair there, but as time went on, his obsession with Pac-Man grew stronger. “If everyone loves Pac-Man, then I’ll BECOME Pac-Man” he thought. He would then come up with the plan to kidnap Pac-Man and become his replacement, essentially stealing his fame, however the Ghost Gang would screw up, leaving the actual Pac-Man free, leaving him to set out and stop his plans, ultimately defeating him.

After his defeat, Pac-Man would forgive Orson, and even invite him to his Birthday Party, along with the other Ghosts… except that he never showed up. As it turns out, he thought Pac-Man didn’t invite him, when in reality he used the invitation as toilet paper… Yeah. After clearing this little misunderstanding, Pac-Man and Toc-Man would have a little makeup party, becoming friends again.

With this rekindled friendship, Orson and Pac-Man would team up in World 3 in order to stop the plans of Erwin, a crazed alien who wants to syphon the energy of the Spectral Realm, which would cause it to collapse onto the Universe. With their teamwork, they would put a stop to his evil plans, and Orson would take it upon himself in order to fix up the Spectral Realm.

Before We Begin…

Welcome to the Toc-Man blog! For the record, this was the result of me not wanting to release a relatively small update to the Pac-Blog by itself, so I decided to release this alongside the update for a bonus. Read that blog here: https://burritosbattleblog.blogspot.com/2024/09/character-analysis-pac-man-v2.html

Keep in mind if you read that blog already, this isn’t gonna be any different really for stats, so that will mostly be consistent across the board, this is mainly for Toc-Man’s unique abilities and the such! Link to the updated Pac-Blog is here if you also want to read that! Alright here we go! Also SPOILERS FOR RE-PAC 2 AHEAD

Equipment

Toc-Man

The actual Toc-Man Mech itself, equipped with various pieces of tech. In order to minimize bloat, I will contain all pieces of equipment tied to the actual Mech to this section.

Toc-Man V2

Orson built an upgraded version of Toc-Man, it should be able to replicate all the abilities of the previous unit, but with some new stuff as well!

  • Superspin Attack: Toc-Man can swing its arms like a propellor, smacking away all nearby enemies, however doing so for too long will cause the mech to overheat and break down.
  • Sonic Boom Attack: Toc-Man can shoot Sonic Booms, which are strong enough to blow up robots and crates.

Rocket Launcher

"This is my world. You are not welcome in my world."

Equipped with a brand new Rocket Launcher, Toc-Man can shoot rockets at his enemies, with a wide AoE. He will also take to the sky and rain rockets down onto his opponents. While I’m no arms expert, the Rocket Launcher resembles the Carl-Gustaf Recoilless Rifle given its bulky, yet portable design.

Axe

Bringing in a new trusty Axe, Toc-Man can hack away at his enemies by leaping in the air towards them. He can also use it as a sort of boomerang by throwing it, hitting anyone in its path, before it returns back to him.

Pellets

They aren’t just for Pac-Man! Toc-Man also has access to a few Pellets himself.

Kart

Being a playable character in Pac-Man World Rally, Toc-Man would have access to all the abilities and power-ups the game provides

Pac-Mobile

In World Rally, racers have access to a special form called the Pac-Mobile. This is obtained after collecting enough Power-Pellets. This will turn them into said “Pac-Mobile.” This form also turns all opponents into Ghost, and by racing into them, it will consume their soul. This form, however, only lasts about 8 seconds.

Power-Ups

Green Pac-BombSimilar to the Green Shell from Mario Kart, when launched at an enemy, they explode.
Red Pac-BombLike the Green-Pac Bomb, it explodes on contact when it hits an enemy. The main difference being that the Red-Pac Bomb follows enemies.
Blue Pac-BombLike the previous Pac-Bombs, but this one exclusively targets the player in first place.
Pac-Dora BoxA fake item box, when collected by a tricked player, stuns them.
Atomic BellyGives racers a small speed boost.
Pac-SnowmanTosses snowballs at nearby racers. When they get hit, they spin out and also freeze.
Storm CloudMakes the road slippery for up head racers
Black Pac-BombWorks exactly as the Green Pac-Bomb, but explodes with a larger radius
Siria the Ice DragonA dragon that throws ice blocks that can freeze opponents.
Sir Pac-a-LotTargets the racer in front of the player.
Galaga ShipShoots the racer closests to the player up ahead.
Banana RamA ram in the shape of a Banana, you must ram into players to deal damage to them.
Blueberry BlasterA blaster that shoots four rockets at a medium firing rate.
Cherry BombsBombs in the shape of a Cherry, will explode upon contact or by itself if left alone for a few moments.
Grape GrenadesShoots explosive grapes that damage those near its proximity.
Pac-Dot GunA rifle that shoots up to 10 Pac-Dots, each shot has to reload.
Sonic BellSends out a shockwave which will damage nearby players.
Strawberry StrikerStrikes players with great force.
Watermelon Seed SpitterA rapid fire weapon, can shoot repeatedly and chip away health.

Abilities/Skills

Ghost Physiology

At the end of the day, Toc-Man’s pilot is a ghost, and as a result, Orson will have the same physiology as a Ghost. An interesting note is that despite being a ghost, the Ghost in the Pac-Man Universe are not intangible, meaning in theory anyone can interact with them. There’s also a few resistances that this provides, which will be listed in the resistances section

Life Manipulation

Toc-Man has shown the ability to give life to inanimate objects, like when he gave life to Windbag by punching its sails, or when he magnetized a bunch of metal in order to create Krome Keeper.

Necromancy

Toc-Man can re-animate skeletons from the ground, providing him with a small undead army to help him in his fight against Pac-Man.

Fourth Wall Awareness

Toc-Man has shown the ability to interact with the Fourth Wall, such as the time he was able to change the Pac-Man World Logo, as well as the Re-Pac logo. In addition, Toc-Man was literally able to push a flashback scene to the side

BFR

Orson was able to teleport Pac-Man around, and even send him to the Spectral Realm, a completely separate universe. He’s even removed limbs with this teleportation method, albeit accidentally.

Hacking

Orson was able to turn a Spectral Siphon into a virtual maze for ease of hacking, allowing Pac-Man to destroy the machine from the inside.

Resistances

Feats

Overall

  • Built two successful models of the Toc-Man mech
  • Is among one of the smartest characters in the Pac-Man Universe
  • Successfully kidnapped all of Pac-Man’s family and friends
  • Put up a good fight with Pac-Man, twice!
  • Discovered Erwin’s plans, and with Pac-Man’s help, was able to defeat him
  • Has the tools and tech to help restore the Spectral Realm after Erwin had nearly depleted it

Power

Durability

Speed

  • Is fast enough to fly into deep outer space and back, beating Pac-Man back to Earth (36,821 c)
  • Is fast enough to contend with Pac-Man (See Scaling Section)

Scaling

Pac-Man

The Pellet Muncher himself! Toc-Man can contend near equally with Pac-Man, and his other forms require Pac-Man to use power-ups of his own to keep up, it’s safe to say that Toc-Man can scale to Pac-Man’s base feats.

Ghost Gang + Other Villains

The Ghost Gang directly worked with Toc-Man before, and he’s even faired a lot better than the Ghosts in his Re-Pac 2 Boss Fight as he was able to fight Pac-Man on equal footing while the Ghost needed to amp their mechs with the Golden Fruit to keep up, in addition, he’s the Secret Boss that appears after beating every other boss in Re-Pac 2, implying that he’s even tougher than they are.

QnA

Where’s Universal Pac-Man?

If you read my previous Pac-Blog, you may be seeing a lack of Universal feats here. That is because… I elected to simply leave it out. Ultimately I think it’s valid, but for ease and to focus on something more direct for Toc-Man I chose to leave it out. I recommend reading the Universal Section in the Pac-Man Blog for my full thoughts on Uni Pac-Man. There’s also other things I didn’t really go into depth here, like Pac-Land’s size, because I already covered it in the original blog.

Summary

Attack Potency: At Least Large Island (Cratered the Moon in a short timeframe) Country Level (Can Keep up with Pac-Man, who survived a moon sized explosion, and fought various enemies that threatened the entirety of Pac-Land)

Speed: MFTL+ (Flew into Space in a very short timeframe, can keep up with Pac-Man who can outrun the 256 Glitch)

Durability: Country Level (Can tank numerous hits from Pac-Man, who he is equal to in Strength)

Potential Matchup

Mimikyu (Pokemon)

“Nobody Loves a Ghost”

I really vibe hard with this matchup, both are Ghosts who only want to be loved, and in order to get noticed, they decided to design themselves after their series’ mascots (Pikachu and Pac-Man respectively). It would be really cool to see, whether it be a full episode or even a DBX, and I think both have enough for a full analysis, even if a bit on the shorter side probably. I also think Toc-Man wins as he matches and surpasses any ends you can do for WIld Pokemon, and even then Mimikyu doesn’t have a real way to put Orson down due to his regeneration.

Closing Thoughts

Hello, Burrito here. A few things. This is closer to a bonus blog than an actual Blog given a decent amount of stuff from here also applies to the original Pac-Man Blog, which if you already read, some sections here will be pretty much the same. As for this blog’s creation, I simply didn’t want to release a relatively small update to the blog, I wanted something to go with it, and given that Toc-Man appears in Re-Pac 2 with new stuff, I decided this was the best approach. Given that I’m treating this as a bonus blog, I didn’t make all the different graphics I normally do.

Pac-Man made it onto Champions Island! As the one who pitched Luigi Vs Pac-Man, seeing Pac-Man be this close to making it onto Death Battle makes me really happy. So, if you’re reading this, please Support Pac-Man!

I initially had an idea for my next main blog, but I think that’s being benched, good thing I never announce projects for this exact reason. I’ll think of a new one to do eventually. For now, go play Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac if you haven’t already, it’s really good!
